(Pc news) Civil War Dcor
No commentsBy GL ONEAL
There is no better way to show your patriotic side than to treat your home with interior dcor that oozes with a touch of history and the civil war era. Civil war dcor is inspired by the era when ordinary Americans became heroes as they fought for their rights and their families. It was during the time of federalism when the British culture had made a large influence on American lifestyle; hence, there are some similarities between civil war themes and the British colonial way of interior decoration.
Furniture and Rooms
Thinking of this era makes us imagine uniformed military men meeting in secrecy in a mansion, a sprawling ranch house, or a backroom of a bar. The furniture is commonly made from heavy wood. There are large wooden desks, high-backed and winged chairs with red cushions on the seats, dark wooden floors with several thick rugs, and wood panels on the walls. If we allow ourselves to imagine further, we might see one of these panels slide open by a secret mechanism (or not so secret-they are almost always opened by a book on the shelf).
Play on this image of the civil war era. Make the room reflect what you see in your imagination. Dark wood furniture like mahogany makes gives that formal appeal of old. Keep the floors bare if permissible. The wood panels on the walls can be left as it is, or you can use wallpaper with simple and elegant patterns. Remember that American households used to look a lot like British parlors. The rooms are warm and cozy with plenty of furniture and accessories.
Room Accessories
Among the most common accessories of this theme are rifles and weapons. Hanging an old rifle over the liquor cabinet (made of from dark-stained wood, of course) makes the area look formidable and truly a mans corner. On a long stretch of bare wall, rifles and scabbards are often crossed when mounted. If youll be mounting weapons as room accessories, they have to be in perfect condition and not ready to fall apart. They must always be kept clean and free from rust-although some decorators prefer to retain the old and worn out appearance of the weapons.
Families that had a close association with the war often have tapestries and banners that are both symbolic and patriotic. They can be hung on the walls of receiving areas and study rooms. A desk always looks grand and imposing when old banners and memorabilia are hung on the wall behind it.
Most memorabilia, like weapons, are not easy to come by though, especially if you havent inherited such items from the older generations that have lived through the era. What you can do is purchase paintings, watercolors and sketches bout the civil war. Ornaments in the shape of eagles and stars will also fit into this theme. Stacked shelve with hardbound books will not look amiss either.
This era may not have been a pleasant one for some, but it is still a part of American history. Using it as inspiration for room decor is not a remembrance of sad memories, but an honoring of those who are worthy of honor.

Electronics Shopping from Home
By Fred Jackson
By your own experiences you know you there are many options about where you can find quality electronics. Big name stores sell many items, but another worthwhile option is to consider the numerous online retailers. From prices to customer service, many websites can help you have a very pleasurable shopping experience.
For most people, the number one concern is money. In a 2006 survey, Consumer Reports asked 20,000 readers where they got the best deals on electronics. The majority stated they found the best prices on the web. At big name stores, the prices are often higher than you would find for some online purchases. The kind of items range from MP3 players and digital cameras to large screen plasma TVs. Amazon.com is just one of the many well-known and trusted online retailers.
Many shoppers also consider customer service. If you’re in a retail store, there are few things worse than customer service that doesn’t actually help. Store sales staff generally fall into two categories: too pushy or too inexperienced. However, many online shoppers praise the improved experience. Finding products and information when shopping online is generally quick and hassle-free. If you want to find out more, all you have to do is search the multitude of online resources.
A subset of customer satisfaction is to know the return policy for any electronics you buy. It’s a good assurance to know you won’t be stuck with a broken or defective item. When items are shipped long distances there is even more risk of damage. For the best online shopping results, find out the return policy before any purchase. Buydig.com, for instance, has a very strict return policy. There are a very limited number of products that can be returned after packaging has been opened, and there is a short 10-day window for purchases that can be returned. Costco is an example of a company with a more lenient approach. With high marks for online and in-store shopping, this store allows you to return almost any item at any time. If an item you bought online needs work, you can take it to a Costco warehouse.
When youre in the market to buy a new TV or the latest computer, put some thought into where you want to buy it. You may prefer a local store where you have a shopping history, or you may wish to do some independent shopping online. You don’t have to settle for a bad experience because there are many great shopping options.
